Sweeny High School has received the 2012 College Readiness Award from the Texas ACT Council. The school received the award for increasing the number of students taking the ACT Assessment during the past five years and significantly increasing its level of achievement and college readiness. Only 170 high schools in Texas were honored for this accomplishment, which represents only 9 percent of all Texas high schools.
The Texas ACT Council is comprised of secondary and postsecondary educators who advise ACT, Inc. on the utilization of ACT programs and services in Texas schools and colleges. The not-for-profit organization provides research, assessment, program management services and information in areas of workforce development and education and publishes the ACT assessment. The ACT assessment is a college admissions test utilized by all colleges nationwide.
“This award is proof that our high school’s faculty, students and parents are focused on college and career readiness. Sweeny High School will, in partnership with parents and community, continue to provide a quality education for all students that will empower them to pursue their full intellectual, physical and social potential and help develop them into becoming productive citizens in an ever-changing, interdependent world” said Brian Brooks, Principal of Sweeny High School.
